Lila Turjanski-Villard

Yorktown, New York

Before moving to the US, Argentine-born Lila studied art with an emphasis on clay sculpture. With her move here, she branched out to experiment with mixed-media sculpture. Lila’s technique has developed over time. Her pieces consist of multiple layers composed of different materials including metal, paper, proprietary finishes, and a protective sealant.

For Lila, her completion of a piece is in the interpretation of the viewer once it becomes independent of her creative process. Her sculptures move with such a lyrical fluidity that’s it’s impossible not to see in them her years as a free movement dancer.

Lila participates in several juried shows across the country

Lila is represented exclusively in the Upper Valley by The Woodstock Gallery.

Artist Statement

My sculpture and my dance have been two passions in my life since I was a kid. The memories of that dance are stamped in my pieces. The themes of movement, space and communication are constantly present in my artwork. I like to explore the suggestions of bodies in communication, in movement and in rhythm with space.
