Holly Hauser

Burlington, VT

Fun and colorful! Holly’s paintings put a smile on your face. At first glance, they appear rustic and incomplete, yet what they really do is break down her subjects and re-interpret them into the most basic of shapes and concepts similar to the way Van Gough rethought his world.

Artist Statement

In Zen Buddhism there is a phase called “beginners mind,”” the ability to see things as if for the first time, to go beyond preconceptions, conventions and words. These paintings are like meditations or journal entries about seeing the world with a sense of discovery.

The layers relay a story of the inquiry, unlearning and unraveling. The naïve quality is an invitation to the viewer to embrace memories and explore one’s unique ways of witnessing and relating to our surroundings.
